What Adidas and Nike Can Teach IELTS Test Candidates about Success

by James England

“Impossible is nothing”; “Just do it”.

Do they ring a bell? Probably several rings – which are loud and clear.

These Adidas and Nike mottos trip off the tongues of budding sports stars on sports fields across the world.

Their impact is not just in the creation of huge sales but in transforming lives of ordinary people like YOU and ME by encouraging us to dream and act.

Dreams are not just wishful thinking. The word dream is an emotive word and it is so powerful when coupled with action.

Just do it!

Most of us have dreams but what decides if we achieve them or not? What’s really the big difference between achievers who attain their goals and those who don’t?

The answer is clear.

Achievers know the steps to success might be hard and include failure along the way, They pick themselves up, learn from their mistakes and keep going. Following their dream.

The unsuccessful don’t.

Of course we all want to identify ourselves with the first group. IELTS Test candidates are no exception and have dreams too.
What can Adidas and Nike teach IELTS Test candidates about realising their dreams?

Impossible is nothing!

They teach us to believe in ourselves; to believe in our ability to achieve our dreams.

Here are 5 steps to reaching yours:

Know Your Dream

Every single step of your way should lead to your goal. It is impossible to reach your dream if you do not even know what you want.

Remember the conversation between Alice and Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland?

Alice: “Which way I ought to go from here?” Cheshire Cat: “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.” Alice: “I don’t much care where, so long as I get somewhere.” Cheshire Cat: “Oh, you’re sure to do that, if you only walk long enough!”

Not knowing where to get to will take you somewhere – just not necessarily where you want to get to – blurry, isn’t it? Nobody would like to walk long enough and see no finishing line-this would be futile.

Be specific about what your dream goal is. Write it in your diary or journal – or post it on your wall! Most IELTS takers are taking the IELTS Test on their way to something better. Maybe something that brings wealth and fame. Maybe a different “greener pasture”?

Possibly you want to work abroad because you’d like more than the low wages your country has to offer you – which can be doubled or tripled overseas. Are you locked in unemployment or underemployment? Maybe the white collar jobs in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other English speaking countries can set you free?

Success in the IELTS Test will help you to get there but the IELTS Test is not your goal – your dream is your goal.

Know What Your Dream Requires To Achieve It.

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained “a maxim by Chaucer implies that without taking risks there is no gain – you can’t obtain anything.

Simply, if you want to achieve your goals you must pay the price. It is just like moving from one destination to another a vehicle is necessary. To emigrate, be educated or employed in a foreign country you should know what these countries require apart from the passport and finances.

English speaking countries require a level of English language proficiency before you are permitted to enter – this is the vehicle and the key.

Immigration embassies and universities in English speaking countries generally require applicants to have an IELTS band score ranging from 6.5 to 7.5. For employment the scores vary depending on the nature of job you will do. For skilled workers, for instance, a band score of 5 suffices.

After this, what’s next? It is time to make stepping stones to serve as a bridge between where you are at the present and where you want to be.

Plan and Prepare

“He, who fails to plan, plans to fail.” Without planning every venture is bound to failure.

To be what you want to be and get what you want isn’t magic. It just takes hard work on your part. It can be likened to climbing stairs not riding an elevator. As you climb each step will bring you to the pinnacle. These steps are actually your plans on how to realize your dream. They include the time frame and the corresponding work activities.

Planning and preparation are necessary to get a high band score in the IELTS Test. There is no quick fix method to getting IELTS band score 6.5 or 7.5. These are difficult levels to pass, even for native speakers of English.

Your challenge will be made easier if you find a coach. Coaches are people who have thorough knowledge of the examination and English language itself as well as materials that can help you overcome the difficulty and ultimately ace the test.

There are materials and courses available online which:

• Provide learner-focussed IELTS Preparation and teach listening, reading, writing and speaking skills for the test.
• Offer assessment of your IELTS writing task 1 and 2 practise for a reasonable charge.
• Supply IELTS Speaking test coaching and assessment for the speaking test.
• Provide effective preparation and skill tips which are easy to digest even in a matter of minutes.

In short, you are not alone in your journey to success. There are people who understand and walk with you in your IELTS preparation. Share your dreams with them and let them help!

Take Action

A well thought out plan is meaningless without taking action to achieve it.

Taking action is what turns your dream into reality. Procrastination in preparation and laziness can easily extinguish the dream. When the examination comes it will be tempting to resort to cramming. Some people are good enough that this is the only preparation needed. Are you that good? Will you pass the IELTS Test with the band scores you need that easily?

Most IELTS Test candidates need to prepare thoroughly to get the band scores they need.

To avoid having your dream crushed and deprive yourself of the life you deserve in the future, Act now!

The longest journey starts with a single step.

Enjoy Your Journey. Have Fun!

Fun is the fuel that keeps people going when things get difficult. It saves you from the fatal step of quitting.

To speak in a foreign language, listen to incomprehensible accents plus the unfamiliar words, read long articles and write under time pressure is difficult. There are no shortcuts to achieving good band scores in the IELTS Test so just enjoy what you do.

Remember that getting good band scores in the IELTS Test is a stepping stone on the path to your dream. A necessary step on your journey.

Envision your dream: your life in the future-studying at a university you can be proud of, living an abundant life and enjoying a lucrative job may be sources of motivation but of course you start by dreaming, willingness to pay the cost, setting realistic plans to be actively implemented and enjoying reaching your dreams.

Impossible is nothing, just do it.

To your IELTS success,

James
